What is the Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation degree?
- This is a degree program officially recognized by the Ministry of Education.
- Master’s degrees at KAIST are categorized into academic and professional degrees. Academic master’s degrees consist of Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Master of Business Administration; professional master’s degrees consist of Professional Master of Engineering and Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
- Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a one-year professional master’s degree program associated with 20 departments at KAIST, with a focus on practice-centered problem-solving education, instead of the existing research-centered education, for the acquisition of knowledge related to entrepreneurship and business startup.

Can graduates of master’s or doctoral programs apply for the Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation?
Yes. Those falling under any of the following are encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor’s degree holders or students expecting to obtain degrees before admission
- Bachelor’s degree holders from overseas universities or students expecting to obtain degrees from overseas universities before admission
- Persons deemed by the Minister of Education as having educational qualifications equal to the above
May I change my major when enrolling in this program?
- Yes.
Can I apply for the program even if I am currently starting a company?
- The Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation program accepts students as “KAIST Scholarship Students” or “General Scholarship Students”.
- Applicants who are affiliated with an organization (applicants who are economically active) can only apply as a "General Scholarship Student", which means they must apply for fields (departments) that are recruiting “General Scholarship Students“ under the general master’s degree program.
- If an applicant is affiliated with an organization when they submit their admission application but plans to leave the organization before enrollment, they can apply for the Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation program as a “KAIST Scholarship Student”. Admission is not allowed for applicants taking a leave of absence from their affiliated organization; the applicant must have “resigned” from the organization. If it is discovered that an applicant who entered as a “KAIST Scholarship Student” is still affiliated with an organization, the applicant’s admission will be revoked.
Can I complete 33 credits in one year?
- Yes, you can complete 33 credits to fulfill the graduation requirements in one year (limit on enrolled semesters) by taking 15 credits in each regular semester (spring/fall), and 3 credits in the summer/winter semesters.
Can I retake courses for any F received?
- You may not re-take the same course unless your grade for a mandatory course is F.
Can I take another major course?
- Yes, However the requirements for graduation do not include courses from other majors.
What is the maximum number of semesters?
- The maximum number of years for course enrollment is one year, and the maximum number of years for graduation is two years.
- Semesters exceeding the limit: Students are charged tuition for exceeding the maximum number of semesters from their third semester, after the 1 year limit has been exceeded.
- Tuition for students exceeding the maximum number of semesters: KRW 924,000 / semester (as of 2021)
How much is the tuition?
- The student payment portion of tuition fees for KAIST scholars in 2021 are as follows.

K-School support
▷ Tuition: KRW 3,598,000 / semester
▷ Supported for one year (two semesters) - Tuition fee decision: Tuition fees for the following academic year are decided at the end of the current year and the student payment portion is subject to change.
How are dormitories provided?
- Dormitory space: Two on-campus dormitory buildings (50 m2 for three persons)
- Fees: KRW 104,000/month (Room assignment and payment every six months)
How are advisors assigned?
- Students are assigned one K-School faculty member and one faculty member of the participating department as co-advisors.
- Co-advisors are assigned upon agreement by the participating department and K-School, and students do not contact their desired advisors individually.
- The period of assignment of co-advisors shall be announced at a later date.
Are laboratories provided upon admission? Which laboratory will I join?
- You will join a laboratory under the department faculty in charge. Additionally, a K-School entrepreneurial activities room will be assigned to each team.
Can I launch startups while enrolled as a student?
- Yes. However, you must obtain prior approval for extracurricular activities from your advisor and KAIST.
- There is a special academic leave of absence for starting businesses. Refer to notices > academic schedule/information for more details on leaves of absence.
Are technology startups the only option in the Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation program?
- No, you are free to pursue other kinds of ventures.
- However, we recommend technology startups, as having a unique technology will enhance your competitiveness and potential for growth.
Until when will the Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation program be offered?
- The Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation is not a temporary program operated on government funding. It is a regular degree program like other graduate-level programs.
When is it best to launch my startup? After earning my undergraduate or graduate degree?
- You can launch your startup at any time. The circumstances and opportunities would vary widely depending on the time of your graduation from a bachelor’s/master’s/doctoral program.
- There is a relationship between startup timing and obtaining a degree if your startup is based on the results of a dissertation research project. Then a better time would be after earning your master’s or doctoral degree.
